User Stereo5 wrote in to the Audiogon Forum asking for help with a damaged rubber surround. He was looking for a quick method to tide him over until he decided to invest in replacing the surrounds.
He posted, “Our cat cut a slice that looks like a number 7 into the rubber surround of one of my speakers. The woofer is a 6.8″ Scanspeak driver, which I know is expensive to replace. The speaker seems to sound ok, but the cut is bothering me. Is there any kind of glue I can use to repair it without doing more damage to the speaker, or should I just leave it alone? Any help would be appreciated.”
Below is the simple method he used and found successful, created from fellow user input.
1. Buy an adhesive that specifically says it is safe for use on all types of rubber and bonds instantly, such as Loctite Stik’n Seal. It should also work in all conditions and will not separate from vibration.
2. Apply a few drops of adhesive and smooth over the area.
3. Let dry for 8 hours with a fan blowing on it.
