2013 GRAMMY WINNING RECORDING ENGINEERS TO CONDUCT DEMONSTRATIONS
DURING NEW YORK AUDIO SHOW, APRIL 12-14

Jim Anderson and Darcy Proper to Discuss Record Mastering

New York, NY, February 20, 2013 – Respected recording engineers Darcy Proper and Jim Anderson won 2013 Grammy awards for their work on Patricia Barber’s album, “Modern Cool” in the category of Best Surround Album and they will share their expertise about the record mastering process during the New York Audio Show.   The series of From Studio to You sessions are being presented by PMC Speakers, The Sound Organisation and SoundStageDirect.com. The New York Audio Show takes place April 12-14 at the New York Palace Hotel and is produced by the Chester Group.

Proper will discuss how the mastering process builds a bridge between professional audio and high end audio. She will explain the similarities and differences between these two disciplines and how the mastering process works while exploring the human approach behind the gear. She will use a variety of music to illustrate her presentations.

One of the most prominent female mastering engineers in the world, Proper is a four-time Grammy award winner and has received seven additional nominations. Currently with Wisseloord Studio in Belgium, she has worked on a wide range of music including mastering historical reissue albums for Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Johnny Cash and Andre Hazes. Other projects include stereo and 5.1 front-line releases for Steely Dan, The Eagles, R.E.M, Donald Fagen, Porcupine Tree, Peter Maffay, Toots Thielmans and Sohne Mannheims.

Anderson is an internationally recognized recording engineer and producer of acoustic music in the recording, radio, television and film industries. During his presentations at the New York Audio Show he will play examples from the 5.1 surround “Modern Cool” re-release and Barber’s latest album “Smash” to illustrate how the albums were mastered. The music will be played in high resolution, two channel stereo and Blu-Ray surround.   Both “Modern Cool” and “Smash” were mixed at Skywalker Ranch.

Anderson has been working with Barber for more than 20 years and has recorded nine of her albums. He is a 10-time Grammy winner as well as the recipient of two George Foster Peabody Awards for radio programs and two Emmy nominations for television shows. Anderson is currently on the faculty of NYU Tisch Arts/Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music and has recorded projects for Toshiko Akiyoshi, Patricia Barber, Terence Blanchard, James Carter, Ron Carter, Jon Fadis, Joe Henderson, J.J. Johnson, Lorin Maazel, Branford Marsalis, Christian McBride, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Maria Schneider, McCoy Tyner, Phil Woods and John Zorn. He has been the audio producer for PBS for “In Performance at the White House” and The Kennedy Center Gala with the National Symphony.”

“We are pleased to offer attendees at the New York Audio show this amazing opportunity to learn how music recordings are created,” said Matt Silberstein, National Sales Manager, The Sound Organisation. “You don’t have to be an audiophile to love music and having access to Jim and Darcy, two of the most respected sound engineers in the world, is a once in a lifetime experience. Both have worked with some of the best musicians in the world and they have fabulous stories to share.”

“Our mission is to provide attendees with the opportunity to not only see the latest products, but to expand their knowledge about music,” said Roy Bird Chairman, Chester Group. “Having these two Grammy award winning engineers participate brings a new level of excitement and prestige to the show.”
