Autographed Sgt. Pepper Sale Breaks Records

An autographed copy of The Beatles’ album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, sold for $290,500 at an auction, far exceeding estimations of $30,000.  The record was signed by all four Beatles in 1967, the same year it was released.  The previous record price for a signed Beatles album was for a copy of 1964’s Meet The Beatles, getting $150,000.

This could be in part due to John Lennon’s signature, as he has one of the top five most expensive autographs.  The last album ever autographed by Lennon was his last album, a collaboration with Yoko Ono, Double Fantasy.  It sold for $525,000, becoming the most valuable record ever.
