You can now utilize Zip Code Area Search! We feel that this search is a large improvement over the original version because now you’ll be able to choose the size of the search area instead of a partial zip-code. All you need to do is enter the starting zip code and then select how many miles around the starting zip code you want (10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 300 mi. ) and then click go. In this example, we’re searching for all listings in the Tucson, AZ area, with a starting zip code of 85724.

After entering our search area of 100 miles around 85724 and hitting “Go,” our results will show only listings that meet that distance criteria. Try out the new, improved Zip Code search next time you visit Audiogon! If you have any questions or comments, please contact us here.

San Marcos, CA, April 9, 2012 – Audience today announced the introduction of a new power conditioning filter section for its Adept Response AC power conditioners. The optional filter section, designated by an “S” at the end of the model number, offers improved sonic performance and is available on the Adept Response standard, model T and model TS power conditioners.

“The Audience Adept Response power conditioner S input filter upgrade adds a new dimension to an already superior filtering system. This filter section consists of a new large-core balun transformer implemented with the same OCC (Ohno) wire used to make the award winning Audience Au24 powerChord. The result is more effective filtering over a broader frequency spectrum, down into the critical 20-30 kHz range. By lowering the noise floor, more low level information is revealed.”

“The improvement is readily obvious as increased clarity, focus, imaging and a more open soundstage,” McDonald continued. “While our Adept Response power conditioners already deliver excellent performance, the new S filter section upgrade takes their effectiveness to a new level and can make a system sound more musically articulate and involving.”

The new S filter section can be ordered as part of a new Adept Response power conditioner or retrofitted into an existing unit. Adept Response units are available in either 120 volt or 220-240 volt configurations.

“I knew this was a winner from the very first note of music I heard with the new S filter section,” McDonald concluded.

The Audience Adept Response S filter section is currently available at a suggested retail price of $1,000.

With sadness and great respect, we say good-bye to our long-time Member Gary Kerr of the Audio Gallery in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Together with his beloved wife Cindy, they touched hundreds of lives with their audio expertise and built a rich, lively network of friends around the country. Cindy says it best:

“Gary Kerr (February 1, 1954 – February 5, 2012)

It is with both a deep sense of loss and yet full awareness of Divine Love that I announce the passing of Gary Kerr of The Audio Gallery in Lake Oswego, OR on Feb 5, 2012.

Gary and I wish to thank each of you with whom we’ve done business or simply shared the passion of music over the past 22 years as proprietors of The Audio Gallery. Our desire is for the transforming power and beauty of music to always be present in your hearts and lives. We feel grateful to have been able to be a part of that experience!

Gary was a most incredible person. I know because I’ve had the privilege of sharing Life with him for 35 years! Injured in a car accident at age 2 which left him paralyzed from the chest down, he overcame obstacles that would be insurmountable for most humans, and yet, he never uttered a word of complaint or discouragement.

He was the embodiment of Nike’s “JUST DO IT.” Passionate and competitive, he became the fastest man in the world in a wheelchair (regardless of disability) in the 1500M track event and the 10K road race and was the inventor/developer or the 3 wheeled racing chairs that are the standard today. He was inducted into the USA Wheelchair Sports Hall of Fame in 1996 for his contributions to wheelchair athletics as an innovator in training, as a designer and as world class athlete. His abilities took him on adventures to race all over the world. He was part of the USA Olympic team (able bodied) during the Summers of 1980 and 1981, representing the USA in the 1500M track event on the European Circuit.

When he reached his zenith as a racer in the late ’80s, he gave much thought as to what he would passionately pursue next… He loved music and was an audio hobbiest as far back as a young child, helping his neighbor put together Heathkit electronics and listen to jazz LPs and much rock n’ roll! When we married in 1978, we didn’t have a stitch of furniture, except for a bed and a “killer stereo.” What else does one need…

The resulting decision was a natural,”Let’s do a high performance audio store!” And the idea became reality.

Our journey began with this thoughtful wish in 1988 when we lived in Clovis, CA. With the encouragement of such wonderful people as George Cardas, Robert Becker of SOTA, Glen Grou of Classe Audio, Prof. Keith Johnson, Scott Franklin of MFA and a short time later, Charlie Hansen of Ayre Acoustics along with Neil Patel and Lucien Pichette of Avalon Acoustics, The Audio Gallery was humbly and lovingly born out of our home in January 1990. When it grew to overtake our house, with systems set-up in every room, we knew it was time to move!

Our search landed us in Lake Oswego, OR in 1994 where we found a dirt and grease filled former Napa Auto Parts store and engine rebuilding space. We knew ”this was it” at first sight. Oh, what a labor of love to transform that space. We were the General Contractors. Gary was the able architect who drew up each room thoughtfully with Sacred Geometry. I was the interior designer and we both used our innate Feng Shui abilities to keep it all in balance. It had a most wonderful look and feel that always evolved over the years – as did Gary and I. Very peaceful & serene yet imbued with fire. We wanted to be sure that Art Blakey felt equally comfortable with Heinrich Biber!

The Triumphant Gary Kerr Gary with Shirley Horn - a piece of Heaven

Each of you has played a part in Gary’s life in helping him to become the special person he was during his time here. He wanted to express his gratitude to you for the gift you were in his life. Gary was not one for “Pomp and Circumstance” but I know he did enjoy a Victory Lap now and then when the fruits of his efforts shined. His request was not for a ceremony but rather that you might ”Celebrate Life” in his honor for a moment by putting on your most favorite piece of music and thinking of him, surrounding yourself with the people in your life that are most dear and telling them how much they mean to you. Gratitude is the Key to the Universe.

The truth that has circled our past days, sings out so clearly… ”And in the end, the Love you take, is equal to the Love you make.” Our paraphrase: “All there is, is LOVE.”

Gary, Cindy and soul brother Frank Schroder at The Audio Gallery

We’ve enjoyed 18 years in our Lake Oswego, OR retail location and it is now officially closed. “To every thing there is a season, and a time for every purpose under Heaven.”

I will be liquidating many wonderful products in the days ahead on Audiogon to complete this process and be able to move forward. I again wish to thank each of you for your patronage over the years and hope to be of service once again during this time of closure for The Audio Gallery.

After clicking on “Find Member,” you will see a screen that looks like this:

Click on the “For Sale items” link to search their listings. If that user or store has nothing listed, your search will return “No results found.”

Making offers on Audiogon’s Classified Listings has changed a bit since we launched the new site. Here is a handy reference guide from both the Seller and Buyer perspectives. For Buyers, you will see how to make an offer so it’s properly recorded and what to do if the Seller counters your offer. Sellers will see step-by-step how you’re notified of an offer and how to make a Counter-Offer.

*A note on Pending Sales: We are developing a clickable option for Seller’s to mark their listing as “Sale Pending.” Until that time, we strongly suggest that Seller’s edit their listing’s text to denote negotiations have begun with a potential Buyer or removing the “Buy It Now” button by clicking on the link to your listing and going into Edit mode.

Buyer’s Perspective

Step 1

When you view a listing that has the Buy It Now option, please review the description to determine if there is a pending sale.

Step 2

Step 3

The Seller will receive a notification email from Audiogon regarding your offer. The Seller must log on to his account in order to Accept or Counter your offer. Your offer may be declined automatically at the end of the 48 hour period, or the Seller may log-in to actively decline your offer.

If the Seller chooses to make a Counter-Offer, you will receive a notification email from Audiogon like the one below:

Step 4

Please log in to your MyPage in order to Accept or Counter the Seller’s Counter-Offer. The Seller’s original Counter-Offer is live for 48 hours, at which time it will automatically decline, but it is courteous to log in and actively Decline a Counter-Offer so the Seller is able to confidently move forward with other prospective buyers.

Step 5

After you have accepted the Seller’s Counter-Offer, you will receive a notification email from Audiogon.

Seller’s Perspective

Step 1

Step 2

Please log on to your MyPage to Accept, Decline, or Counter-Offer. It is courteous to the prospective Buyer to Decline offers via the site, rather than letting the offer run out at the end of 48 hours.

Step 3

Step 4

Your Counter-Offer has been successfully submitted to the Buyer ONLY when you see the message below.

Step 5

When the Buyer has accepted your counter-offer, you will receive a notification email from Audiogon. At that time, it is appropriate to enter shipping details and get in touch with the Buyer. All listings remain active but with a sold status for 30 days to allow for communication between the Seller and Buyer.

Don’t forget to close your transaction by “Marking the Item As Paid” (lower right corner of actual listing) and submitting Feedback! Thank you!

The Kipnis Studio Standard™ – TRINITY Ultimate Home Theater – Impressive is an Understatement!

For most of you, your Audio Visual aspirations include a well-built home theater with surround sound. Or perhaps you hope to one day own and operate a home studio for listening to favorite music and recording local musicians. However, one of our longtime Audiogon members in particular has turned THE Ultimate Home-Theater / listening room concept into a reality.

Meet audiophile producer & engineer, Jeremy Kipnis, who is also a widescreen cinemtagorapher, acoustician, and conductor. He owns one of THE Most elaborate and well-designed home theaters in the world, the Kipnis Studio Standard (KSS) – TRINITY Ultimate Home Theater. Because of the intricacy and sheer volume of custom designed and modified equipment in this uniquely created and constructed theater, his studio has the ability to transport the audience to the event; more so than you have ever experience before! This quickly turns any film, tv program, or music album you may be watching or listening to into the “Greatest Show On Earth!”. When Kipnis designed and built the KSS room, his goal was to immerse the audience completely, allowing them to see and hear anything and everything contained in the media, and also to physically experience it, as well. The Kipnis Studio Standard seduces one into becoming so involved with the movie or soundtrack in a completely believable way that it is as close to reality (or even better) than anything thus far produced in a performance venue.

The Audiogon community has helped to build this prestigious, beyond cutting edge ultimate home theater. “In my research and development process for this project, I utilized Audiogon on many occasions to purchase and test equipment; otherwise unavailable anywhere else. The customer service and wide variety of products available have allowed me to create a better Ultimate Reference System. Additionlly, there has been the benefit of collaborating with many fellow AV enthusiasts to share experiences with audio equipment and recordings from across the world,” shares Kipnis.

The Kipnis Studio Standard is a protocol designed to produce the “You Are There” experience, better than anything else on the planet. First, there is the room itself, with tightly controlled acoustics afforded by the reverse-trapegon room shape offer the perfect complement to the 12.12 channel surround audio system; with 24 – 18” Snell speakers, and a whole lot more. This unique room has vaulted ceilings ranging from 8 feet to 16 feet, allowing the sound to spread out, offering an IMAX-like experience. Add to this a Sony High Resolution 4K (4,096 by 2,160) SRX series Cinema projector, (and more recently JVC 8K Projection System), along with a Stewart Snowmatte Laboratory Grade 4-way masking Motion Picture Screen, he can create anything from any aspect ratio perfectly to suite any program material as large as 24’ x 16’ with perfect precision.

In addition to being owner, engineer and producer of his own high-end classical and jazz label, Epiphany Recording Ltd., (est. 1994, now in its 18th year), Kipnis has created albums for many labels including Capital, Chesky, EMI, London, RCA / BMG, SONY, and Warner Brothers. His understanding and knowledge of what makes great sound spans over 43 years of study, and he owns an immense library of over 300,000 Albums (78s, 45s, LP, CD, RTR, SACD, DVD, LaserDIsc, etc.) giving him unparalelled access to music, film, technology, and architecture with acoustics most of us can only dream of.

http://www.kipnis-studios.com/The_Kipnis_Studio_Standard/Robb_Report_-_11_09.html

As you will see from this article (above), his passion for cinema grew as a child when he became close with several of his family’s friends, including audio / video innovator and Hall of Famer, Henry Kloss: the pioneer behind the first home theater projection systems, at ADVENT in 1971, also creator of the Bookshelf Speaker (Acoustic Research in 1954). Kipnis himself now boasts 4 consecutive Guinness World Record Wins (2009 – 2012) for being the “Most Technically Advanced Home Theater & Video Gaming Setup in the World!”, and countless international awards for both his pioneering audio and video work.

Kipnis considers the KSS TRINITY Theater a laboratory, a place to review new technologys on a daily basis. He is currently designing and creating several different sized versions of his KSS Media Room designs for new clients in the US, Canada, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina, and Australia; providing an ultimate AV experience that is way beyond merely going to the movies or listening to an album. One day he hopes to create a truly self-powered wireless speaker that can produce “You Are There” sound from within any room type and size, while blending invisibly into the interior decour — a true No Compromise High-End afforadble speaker system.

Kipnis’s long list of testimonials from avid listeners and viewers speaks for itself. Steve Guttenberg (Home Theater Magazine, CNET, Stereophile, The Absolute Sound, The Robb Report, Engadget and A/V Interiors, and a projectionist for Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola) states “ I thought I had seen and heard everything, but nothing comes close to this!”

And Academy Award winning film resortation producer, Robert Harris (Godfather, Rear Window, Sparticus, Vertigo) uses Kipnis Studios to evaluate the quality of his work, “The facililty is World Class — a Screening Room that itself defines the “Standards” for our industry!

Kipnis has been recently featured on the HGTV show “Million Dollar Rooms”. Check out the full segment at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KptVIB1KYpk

Hello Everyone!

We just wanted to take a quick moment to chat about why Buyer and Seller Feedback is vital in an online marketplace. In the old days, a firm handshake and an honest look in someone’s eyes were enough to determine a person’s character, but in the days of online transactions, Feedback replaces the handshake and smile. Today, Feedback helps you confidently proceed with transactions and it’s an integral piece in keeping Audiogon a safe and fun community.

For Buyers, Feedback gives you a better picture of the Seller’s reliability. In prior Buyers’ own words, you’ll read about how quickly items were shipped, how responsive a Seller was to messages, and how Sellers handled situations that didn’t go smoothly. When Sellers leave feedback for you, it lets future Sellers know that you’re someone who they want to do business with.

For Sellers, the text in your listing is your advertisement, but your Feedback really showcases your strengths to potential Buyers. And by leaving Feedback for your Buyers, you give fellow Sellers the opportunity to review potential Buyers before agreeing to a deal. The power is in your hands!

Now, it would be great if everyone left Feedback immediately after a transaction was completed. Sometimes, though, the new gear sitting in a box on your doorstep is just begging to be opened, or that new listing is blowing up with questions or offers and you’re just too excited or perhaps you simply forgot. Don’t worry, you can still go back later to leave Feedback and help your fellow audiophile complete future transactions. Here’s how:

1. From the homepage, click on LEAVE FEEDBACK

2. On the next page, you will be asked to log-in again for your security.

3. After you log-in, you will be asked to choose “An Item I Bought” or “An Item I Sold”

4. After choosing Bought or Sold, your recent transactions will come up. If they do not, you will see a screen that looks like this:

5. After entering the Member’s username, you’ll be able to Leave Feedback.

6. You’ll have the chance to review your comments and enter the Brand, Model, and Price after you click on Submit.

Leaving Feedback only takes a few minutes and can make a world of difference for future transactions!

Shopping online should be just as safe and convenient as shopping at your corner store. Accomplishing this goal requires a team approach between site administrators and our community members. In this blog we wish to share some innovations which Audiogon has recently deployed to stamp out fraud. This has been an ongoing objective, dating back to our launch in 1998. Fortunately, we have better resources today to combat internet hijinks. Our recent system update launched in January of this year had built in security improvements, which are just now being implemented. Listed below are categories of improved security minus detailed descriptions so we don’t give up our secrets to the “bad guys.” This isn’t CIA stuff, but it’s close.

1. We added security validations in regards to new member sign ups, listings, offers and communication in an effort to reduce spam and the creation of fraudulent accounts.

2. We have strengthened our security flaggings in order to reduce fraudulent activity.

3. Some members (thank you) raised concerns about malware and viruses originating from third-party links, and these have been squashed.

4. We have responded to community suggestions (received through posts on the blog) to change feedback scores for new members as no feedback instead of 100% positive. (What were we thinking?)

Our next blog will outline things that community members can do to help us squeeze out the “bad guys.”

Thank you to all the members who consistently provide us with constructive feedback and suggestions. We look forward to working together for continuous improvement.

Stay posted!

Think back to when you were 13 or 14 years old. For most people, it is an awkward time, filled with big changes, big dreams, and more often than not, bumps in the road as one tries to grow. These growing pains are normal, and successfully overcoming obstacles makes us stronger. Audiogon is now 14 years old, and we are experiencing some growing pains too as we strive to grow into a more dynamic, responsive, safe, and interactive marketplace.

Despite rumors to the contrary, our ownership has not changed during these 14 years. The same people who brought you this marketplace in the first place are committed to rescale and enhance it today. We have been working hard to respond to your feedback, implementing your suggested changes, and in some cases, bringing back features that you missed from our old site. As good as the old site was, we are confident that the new one will be better, and we are counting on community feedback to continue to help shape it.

Looking forward, we have some exciting updates to share with you this week.

New Feature: Friendly URL’s are now live, Your listing title will now be displayed in the URL, friendly URL’s are used to provide more-relevant links to web pages. Therefore your listings will be more prominent on search engine results.

We have improved your ability to manage your listings. You can now easily re-list and sort expired listings by date.

Auctions are back! They went live this week and we are pleased to offer this again.

What we are working on:

Application Errors-how frustrating, we have been getting these too. Since our launch in January, search engines have been re-indexing the pages (not just current listings, but past listings) on our site, sometimes creating an overload on the system. These application errors are a temporary problem (i.e. a growing pain) while this rendering takes place, and we are working with the major search engines to minimize the disruption.

On-site Messaging is coming soon. Protecting our community from fraud and providing a secure marketplace for our members is a top priority here at Audiogon. We know that our community wants to communicate with one another and our new on-site messaging system will provide a secure venue for that interaction. We are not trying to monitor your communications with one another or create an enforcement mechanism for sales commissions. Instead, we are trying to protect our members from fraud. Audiogon will continue to mediate disputes between members when they engage in on-site transactions, but we cannot be held responsible for communications and transactions that take place off-site. The community made it clear that being able to message one another is very important, and we are working hard to facilitate this interaction.

What else would you like to see?

We firmly believe that you, our members, are the true reason Audiogon has been such a wonderful marketplace and community for audiophiles alike. We would like to give you a chance to help drive the direction of the site and are working on a suggestion box so you can easily reach out to us.

What else do you want to see from Audiogon?

What would you like to see us doing better?

For now we would love to initiate a broader discussion here on the blog. Let us know what you think in the comments.
