Audiogon Updates Coming December 18 and 19th – Postponed!

Update1 – Sunday December 18th: After a large response from the community not to launch anything on Sunday night or Monday morning, we’ve postponed the launch to mid-week.  Thank you for your patience.

Dear Audiogon Member,

Over the last few weeks I’m sure you’ve seen notices about the upcoming changes we’re making to our marketplace to better serve the entire Audiogon community. We also had hoped to have the site re-launched much earlier this month but due to unforeseen data challenges we had to delay the launch.

However, we now feel that we’re ready to share with you what we’ve been working on over the last 6 months. Starting around 7pm on Sunday December 18th we’ll be taking user accounts offline to upgrade them to our new system. Be assured, none of your listings will be lost and our goal is to have everything back online by Monday morning, the 19th.

We very much appreciate your patience through this process and hope you’ll enjoy all the great new benefits once the site is launched. This upgrade will ultimately allow us to continue to support our growth as well as implement many of the features you have requested over the years.

Thanks again and happy listening.

The Audiogon Team

  1. not to nit pick but the Sunday the 17th and 18th is awkward…either leave the day or put Saturday and Sunday… but then again…your text on this page impliese Sunday and Monday…. which is it… c’mon guys! 😉

    1. Sounds fine with me. Just hope there will be no more fees. AudiogoN is getting pretty costly to do business with when you add in fees to list that can range from $4.00-$28.00, plus another 2%. Blissaudio a member since 1999 (I think). No matter a very long time. 🙂

    2. Hi Mark,
Sorry about the confusion, the blog is already updated with the correct information and user accounts will be offline Sunday night and Monday morning. Thanks for your comment and apologies for the confusion.

  2. It would be great if you reduce your prices to join just to see values. Also, instead of seeing sold on a listing it would be helpful to see what items sold for.

  3. Have you ever heard of fixing something that works? You guys just have to give some programmer something to do. The end result….. it will never be the same. Thats why we are here and not on E-Bay. Please stop before its to late.

    1. I guess you just can’t please people. Some want changes, some don’t. I highly doubt you know anything about how A-Gon’s management decisions are made.

Lighten up, Mike-O, before you have a heart attack. Oops, I meant “Michael.” How non-pretentious of me.

      Sincerely,

Emerald Hammond Sir Listenalot David Petterhausenschnaufenfickenbuchen III, Esq.

  4. Nitpicking and proofreading are not very far apart. How about “visible” while we are changing the posted text? Those things aside, I am looking forward to the new site.

  5. Why don’t people leave things the way they were; I saw no problems before and now I can’t
even get on the website. I can’t email them or call them; nothing. And, the worse part is
doing the upgrad at Xmas time when sells was going great. L.E. Collins

  6. could we also add that a mid week change would have been at a time of less traffic
why fix the road at rush hour when there are better times???

  7. works for me. the site has been crashing every time i’m on it for the past month. at first i thought it was my computer, but audiogon is the only site this ever happens on. looking forward to the upgrade.

  8. Better late than never I guess. Agree that a mid week upgrade would probably make more sense. Don’t you guys look at historical traffic reports?

How about an A’Gon app for Android and iOS?

  9. I am cautiously optimistic about the new changes — but as a ten year member of Audiogon, feel compelled to highlight that the site has been my long-time reference as one of the few that — to its credit — has maintained a SIMPLE, EFFECTIVE format. So part of me wants to say “If it isn’t broken, don’t try to fix it ….” On the other hand, it seems that perhaps the technology foundation for Audiogon has been somewhat stagnant, and there certainly has been a lot of change elsewhere in the past decade, so hopefully, the new Audiogon format will reflect helpful, new capabilities and social media links, not “gimmicks” for the sake of change!

  10. I look forward to your site improvements, it has been a very positive buying and selling experience to date on Audiogon. Fees are very reasonable and fair. Regarding the E-Bay sellers coming over to the Audiogon site (and complaining) … I suggest you raise the listing fees to keep these money hungry chimps away. Records listing for silly prices and stores taking advantage of the free music postings … we don’t need disgruntled E-Bay sellers disguising themselves as Audio enthusiast! Just my 2 cents.

  11. I agree with other posters. You couldn’t have picked a worse time. You do realize that Sunday night is when a lot of people settle in and browse the site for purchases, right? January, middle-of-the-week would have been better.

  12. Dear Audiogon,

I’ve been a dedicated G’goner for about 4 years. I love this site, and I wish you all the best with the upgrade.

  13. I’ve hoped you would upgrade the site for years. Overall it works fine but one feature I frequently miss is a “saved search” (similar to ebay’s) that will notify me by email as when a new listing appears that matches my saved search criteria. I’ve missed out on many deals I would have bid on if I just had that alert. That would be excellent. Otherwise keep up the good work!

  14. Nothing remains the same, eh? I’ve been a member since 2000 and for the longest time A’gon was the most practical, simplistic, and cost-effective web site, regardless of one’s audio needs. In recent years, A’gon seems to be migrating slowly away from that philosophy, especially the cost-effective part Nevertheless, I’m surprised that it remained essentially unchanged for as long as it did.

I only ask that when faced with a need for change A’gon seriously consider its’ original designs and philosophies which seemed to have worked so well for so long and for which you are to be commended.

These are tough economic times and changes (for better or worse) always come at a price, which must be past along to the consumer.

    Here’s hoping for the best,

    -John

  15. Word to the herd:

Unless you’ve rolled out a new website, maybe you should be keeping your negative comments in-check. Really, people, don’t you think they’ve been planning these changes for some time? Don’t you think it’s a bit late to just “add” new functionality here and there–just because some anonymous person on the web suggests it? It ain’t that easy. If the fine A-Gon folks ran after every suggestion, the site would NEVER get updated.

    Happy Holidays, Grinches!
