The Loudness Wars – A Comparison

If you’re new to the “Loudness Wars” debate, here’s a short video giving an audio-visual representation of the differences between compressed and uncompressed sound.  (The video is a little shaky, but the point still comes across crystal clear.)

We sometimes hear the younger generation say compression is a non-issue, but do you think that perhaps its really just that they haven’t been exposed to uncompressed sound in a way that encourages understanding?  Let us know in the comments!

  1. I suspect for many youngsters, compression has become part of the musical experience. They have become so used to sensory overload that they may find uncompressed music boring.
